Are You Considering An ATV? Here is a quick and easy ATV buying guide for new and used ATVs
In determining what ATV is right for you, keep the following in mind:reliability, comfort, and quality.
There are a couple of things to consider when purchasing your ATV. First, many ATV owners customize their vehicles to fit their needs/wants by purchasing or substituting parts, which means investing more money into your ATV. Be sure to keep this in mind when deciding what ATV to get. Secondly, ATV enthusiasts need to determine what features are most important (i.e. power, speed, versatility, etc.) which means figuring out where you will use the ATV and what it will be used for (competition, agricultural purposes, etc.). Some ATVs to pick from include: Arctic Cat, Bombardier, Honda, Kawasaki, Polaris, Suzuki, and Yamaha.
If you would like to get a better idea of what an ATV might cost, you can customize your search and start comparing prices. It generally ranges anywhere between $2,000-$11,000.
You will also need to determine if you prefer to buy a new or used ATV. Some ATV seekers who previously owned ATVs and are familiar with what improvements an ATV might need go ahead and purchase a used ATV. Afterwards, they invest a couple hundred dollars in parts that they may need to improve their used vehicles.
After purchasing your ATV, be sure to check with your state and its present ATV regulations. For example, according to the state of New York, the ATV (or all-terrain vehicle) is defined as “any self-propelled vehicle with two or more wheels that is manufactured for sale to be used primarily off-highway or in off-road competitions, and that is no wider than 70 inches and weighs no more than 1,000 pounds.” . This excludes off-highway vehicles that are made only for traveling on snow or ice (i.e. snowmobiles). The state of New York requires that ATVs be registered. ATVs used solely for snow plowing and/or agricultural reasons are exempt from registration in New York.
Because the use of ATVs can lead to serious injury, safety equipment, proper instruction, and following the state regulations are vital to making your experiences with your ATV positive and enjoyable ones.
